You will visit local schools and hear from teachers and administrators about their programs and experience. Be sure to register quickly as we sell out early every year. Only 90 spaces available. View three options below:
Dual Immersion School Visit
We will start at John Campbell Elementary (Selah) from 9:00 – 10:45 am and will get to see Kindergarten & 1st Grade classes. We will hear about some of the lessons learned. We will then go to Moxie Elementary (East Valley) from 11:00 am – 2:30 pm where we will have lunch and see some upper grade models. Then we will return to Yakima Convention Center by 2:45 pm.
Sheltered Instruction School Visit
We will begin with our East Valley Elementary school visit from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm where we will work with teachers and trainers in their 3rd, 4th & 5th grades. We will eat there as well. Then we will go to East Valley Central Middle School from 12:15 – 2:30 pm where we will be working with staff who is advocating with families and teachers. Later in our visit we will hear from High School Teachers on Collection of Evidence (science). Then we will return to Yakima Convention Center by 2:45 pm.
Toppenish School District Visit
Our Toppenish Visit will include the high school and two elementary schools. We start at Garfield Elementary (GLAD) from 8:30 – 9:50 am. Then we will be Valley View Elementary from 10:00 – 11:20 am focusing on Literacy. Lunch will be at District Office from 11:30 am – 12:45 pm where John Cerna, Toppenish Superintendent, will come speak to us and share about their successful graduation rates. Then we will head to Toppenish High from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. There we will be looking at their STEM program and how ELs integrate and BiLingual translator certification.
