During the Fall Institute

  • Sign-in each day at the clock hour table. *Your badge must have your correct name to claim clock hours.
  • Pick up a Conference Planning Sheet. This will include your online access code to claim hours after the Institute.
  • Track the sessions you attend on the Conference Planning Sheet. Be sure to keep this form.

After the Fall Institute

  • Go to the WAESOL website at www.waesol.org and click on the Clock Hour tab. Proceed to the 2026 Fall Institute link.
  • Use the access code received at the Institute to access the payment and registration system.
  • Fill out the online form and submit.
  • Pay online for the number of clock hours you are requesting.
  • WAESOL will verify attendance through the daily sign-in sheets.
  • Once verified, an official signed clock hour form will be emailed to you within three weeks.

2026 Call for Presentations

All sessions will be presented in-person at the institute. Submitted sessions will be surveyed by past attendees for interest levels prior to acceptance. Presenters will be contacted by in August with acceptance notifications. Presenters must register for the institute to attend sessions outside of the accepted presentation time slot. Accepted presentations will receive one complimentary registration to the 2026 Fall Institute. The complimentary registration discount will be added after presentation documents have been uploaded to the WABE app. Presentation discounts cannot be split between multiple presenters. Be sure to indicate who would receive the discount if accepted. Thank you for your assistance.

Cristina Sanchez-Lopez has been a bilingual educator for 30 years. She is currently co-president at Paridad Education Consulting working nationally and internationally on issues related to multilingual education. Cristina has taught at the elementary, middle school and university levels in the US and Mexico. At present, Cristina teaches graduate and undergraduate courses at DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois. Cristina is a co-author on: Special Education Considerations for Multilingual Learners: Delivering a continuum of services (Brookes Publishing, 3rd edition 2023); Focus on Special Educational Needs (Oxford University Press, October 2018), and a recent white paper titled Welcoming Bilingual Learners with Disabilities into Dual Language Programs with the Center for Applied Linguistics (2022) as well as various articles and chapters that address multilingual education. 

FRIDAY MORNING FEATURED SESSION: Creating Culturally & Linguistically Inclusive Learning Environments for Multilingual Learners with and without Disabilities: Research, resources and recommendations

In this session, we will explore the research on the capacity of learners with and without disabilities to develop bilingualism and the characteristics of effective learning environments for language learners experiencing challenges. Participants will come away with a framework, checklists and resources to build multilingual learning environments in their settings.

Saturday Featured Session

Dr. Kristin Percy Calaff is the Executive Director of Multilingual & Migrant Education for the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. She has over 30 years of experience as a dual language teacher, principal, district administrator, adjunct professor, and state leader. Kristin holds a Ph.D. in Multilingual/Multicultural Education and is dedicated to expanding dual, heritage, and Tribal language programs and ensuring equity for multilingual learners.

SATURDAY MORNING FEATURED SESSION: Dual Language for All: Transforming Education in Washington State

Washington State’s Superintendent, Chris Reykdal, and state legislature have committed to supporting all districts to develop dual language programs, but what will it take to make this transformation happen? In this session, we will unpack this lofty goal and learn about what concrete steps need to be taken to not only spread dual language across the state but also to ensure that every dual language program is delivering on the promise to transform the educational experiences of students to build a multilingual, multiliterate Washington.
