Changes, Substitutions, and Terms for Attendance:

Please contact the WABE Registrar to make name changes. We do not accept cancellations or provide refunds. Attendee substitutions can be made through the first day of the institute.

Payment

Payment is accepted via credit card (VISA or Mastercard). WABE’s W-9 can be accessed here.

Sales Tax Exemptions

For school districts exempt from paying sales tax on conference registrations, please download the Sales Tax Exemption Certificate, complete it, and send it to wabe@kfevents.com within 30 days of registering. After the certificate is received, any sales tax paid on the registration will be refunded.

Booking

Reservations are on a space-available basis and until January 5th, and the special conference rate is at the discretion of the hotel.


Reservation Terms

  • Guests are responsible for booking their own rooms. A credit card is required to guarantee your reservation and will remain on file for room, tax, incidentals, and any no-show charges.
  • Cancellations/Changes: To avoid a one-night charge, cancellations or adjustments must be made at least 24 hours before arrival.

During the Winter Institute

  • Sign-in each day at the clock hour table. *Your badge must have your correct name to claim clock hours.
  • Pick up an Institute Planning Sheet. This will include your online access code to claim hours after the Institute.
  • Track the sessions you attend on the Institute Planning Sheet. Be sure to keep this form.

After the Winter Institute

  • Go to the WAESOL website at www.waesol.org and click on the Clock Hour tab. Proceed to the 2027 WABE Winter Institute link.
  • Use the access code received at the Institute to access the payment and registration system.
  • Fill out the online form and submit.
  • Pay online for the number of clock hours you are requesting.
  • WAESOL will verify attendance through the daily sign-in sheets.
  • Once verified, an official signed clock hour form will be emailed to you within three weeks.

2027 Winter Dual Language Institute Session Proposals

Please consider submitting a presentation for the upcoming 2027 WABE Winter Institute.

Submission Deadline: November 27, 2026.

The Winter Dual Language Institute will be held at the Southcenter DoubleTree in Seattle, WA on January 29 – 30, 2027. Accepted presentations will receive one complimentary registration to the Winter Institute. Once accepted, please register and the complimentary registration discount will be added after presentation materials are uploaded to our app.

More about Valeria Yasuda Villena

Valeria is a first-generation college student at the University of Washington Tacoma, where she studies Business Administration and serves as President of the Multicultural Society and Secretary of the Latinx Student Union (LSU). Originally from Peru, Valeria moved to the United States before her sophomore year of high school and attended Emerald Ridge High School. She participated in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes during her sophomore and junior years before transitioning out of the program in her senior year.

Her experience as a multilingual learner shaped her understanding of language, identity, and belonging. While navigating a new language and educational environment was challenging, the encouragement of her family, ESL teacher, and school counselor helped her build confidence and recognize her potential. Initially planning to attend community college, Valeria was encouraged by her educators to explore opportunities at universities, including Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Washington. Their support broadened her perspective on higher education and helped her recognize possibilities she had not previously imagined.

Today, Valeria works as a Spanish interpreter for her school district and is passionate about creating welcoming environments where students from diverse backgrounds feel seen, valued, and included. Through her experiences as a multilingual learner, interpreter, and campus leader, she hopes to encourage educators to recognize the strengths bilingual students bring to their classrooms and the lasting impact they can have by believing in their students’ potential.
